Trees
I feel inspired by trees. I painted on a large piece of finished wood, the marks of the tree showing through. This gave me the idea to follow those natural lines and create trees. The trunks are thickly layered strokes of paint with a spatula. They felt rigid so i took a steel brush and messed around with the tree tops. The effect was fabulous, you can feel the breeze moving the leaves and maybe fog rolling in.
This was my first set of trees, also painted directly on wood. The antique painting inspired, but i wanted to give it an abstract spin. The squares represent the look of bark and the tress are thickly layered to also mimic bark.
