Palais Royal

The stark contrast seduced me to take this picture: the contrast between the straight and organized architecture and the shiny silver balls, round and seductive in front of a traditional French Palace. There is geometry, texture, architecture and beauty in this shot.

Sun-Day

A beautiful day of summer.  I am in a little private plane, a bonanza one engine delight. We are flying above Malibu and I marvel at the beach, lightly populated by sun worshipers, reading, dreaming, swimming, tanning.  I see so clearly what is going on below, but my iPhone 8 does also.  When I looked at the shot later, I could not believe the sharpness of the image.  I like the angle of the ocean meeting the beach, I did not plan that shot. I never plan a shot.  I shoot my iPhone from the hip like John Wayne shot his gun.  The green is very vibrant.  A beautiful piece of art for a home that wants a splurge of color.

Anonymity

I stood across the hotel on a ledge.  The colors were intriguingly monotone, slightly sage green. “Why?” I wondered.  What intrigued me here was the geometrical pattern, the texture, the order and disorder of the windows.  The second aspect of my curiosity was - what was going on behind all those windows and curtains? Conversations, fights, grief, solitude, love making, crimes, sleep, work, unpacking, packing, room service, despair, hope? 60 shades of life, all in sage green and grey.

Smoothie

I’m in a little town in the Mayan region.  It’s siesta time, too hot to work.  Everything sleeps. I go for a stroll, exploring this town that is all yellow. During the time of the past, whoever had the pest in their home, was asked to paint their home egg yolk yellow to let the neighbors know to stay away. There was not much else but homes, and a little town center.  I ventured away and suddenly turned a corner and saw a fruit stand randomly placed with the most vibrant colors, freshest fruit and a little window. This is not photoshopped, as none of my photos are.  The colors really were that vibrant.  This must be printed on aluminum and looks fabulous in a kitchen or dining nook.

Fermé

I have been fascinated by doors for a long time. Where do they lead to? What’s behind?  Are they abandoned, or well-maintained, well-painted? The locks alone can be intriguing. This one looks equally good on paper or aluminum, framed with white matting. I found a dark silver frame that mimmicked the little balls of the door and made the photo look really stunning.

Gridlock

A nondescript summer’s day.  I wander the streets without goal, just taking in the vibe of a newly revived downtown LA, artist places opening up left and right, pop up stores, high-end boutiques next door to a funky book store. Traffic is humming, people are running… I look ahead and see a wire fence and a monotonous scene behind, just a building and another at an odd angle, but just at that moment the red bus arrives and changes the mood of this scene.  I pull out my phone, point and shoot one shot. The graininess is cool, the vibe is that of just another ordinary day.

Glamour

I am on a bus.  It is raining, everything is moving slowly. Suddenly this gorgeous red car overtakes the bus.  I pull out my iPhone, shoot one shot, this is it.  I like the streaks of water, a repeating theme in my photography, and the blurriness provoked by both objects, my bus and this car, moving. Strangely, the arcades in the background look like an old 35mm film negative from before digital photography.

ACCIDENTAL

Cloud

I was going to shoot this cloud floating on a beautiful sunset in the distance, when my phone fell out of my hands. This was the result. The actual second photo I took was not interesting. This one pleased me. Movement, sideways, mystery, abstract.

LAX

We are approaching the runway for landing.  I gaze out the window mesmerized by all the lights below.  I take a shot, the engine, the lights, the night.  My phone falls out of my hands.  An accidental shot.  Gorgeous on aluminum.

Sprinkle City

Rooftop Terrace of the ACE hotel downtown in Los Angeles.  I arrive to have a cocktail, the view to the sky scratchers is lovely and enchanting in colors.  I turn my head to grab my glass, and as I glance back at the sunset, rain had started to fall in just those seconds.  It made the view so much more interesting. I snapped this shot, grainy, textured and exactly what my eyes witnessed through the lens of my iPhone (eyephone).  Sold printed on aluminum.

Yong

The Broad Museum, Los Angeles, 2015.  It’s the early days of the museum having opened.  I am going with a group of friends for the first time. Night has already fallen.  My friends enter ahead of me, and for a second I look up and see this exact view. I am mesmerized, pull my phone out of my bag and take one shot.  iPhone 6, not photoshopped.  I have truly never seen in any social media posts of the Broad that show this angle of the building.

PARIS

Cafe

I am sitting at Cafe au Deux Magots in Paris, 2014, enjoying people watching, the scent of wet pavement, and a hot cup of tea.  Rain is falling all of a sudden, but it looks like snow.  It coats the typical French building in freckles, that amuses my eye.

Tower

The Eiffel Tower of Paris must be one of the most photographed attractions in the world. As a photographer I always try to look for a new angle. I was strolling across Paris very late at night and all of a sudden, there was this majestic tower in front of me.  I played in the grass and stared up into its complicated, intricate, intriguing construction and then I took the picture, one or two shots.

Fountain

My favorite square of Paris.  There is Eglise St. Sulpice, a most beautiful church that has listened to many of my prayers and meditations.  There is one café, Café de la Marie, where Parisians go after work, parking bicycles and motorcycles under the tree and sitting under the typical umbrellas for aperitif. And then there is this fountain.  It is large and round and ornate with lions and saints.  Water rushes from its fountains and creates a powerful sound to the otherwise peaceful square. I decided to hone in on just a part of the fountain, intrigued by the drops and trickles of water, the depths of color of the stone, the mood as it blends into white.  This has been sold a number of times printed on aluminum which enhances the mood and feel of stone and water beautifully.

Ocean

The ocean never ceases to fascinate me.  Color and movement are never the same, not for a second.  This is taken at sunset. I love the simplicity.  Printed on high-end paper, it can look like an oil painting.

Greenanas

The fruit and flower markets are mind blowing. So colorful, noisy, frantic movements, vendors yelling, everything presented in simple ways. In baskets, cardboard and paper.  These bananas were so green, and stuffed into a paper bag and were a piece of art. This has been bought both printed on paper with white matting and black frame, as well as on aluminum.

Sand

I am on the verge of a massive life change and I am taking 2 weeks to go away by myself to a beach, hot weather and time to think.  I spent most of my days at the beach from early in the morning till nightfall, with just a break for lunch.  I walked and sat and swam in beautiful crisp water.  The sunsets were mind blowing, so were the designs the ocean water created on the sand.  I took several shots, all have been printed on aluminum or acrylic and they are geometrical, textured and mysterious, letting the viewer wonder.

Nightfall

I am inside a fast moving car, dreaming, silence around me.  I turn my head to observe the landscape and notice some interesting light in the distance.  I pull out my iPhone and snap a few shots.  This is unaltered, not photoshopped. It has been sold a few times and graces my own home. Printed square, it is gorgeous in its depth of color and mysterious movement and fuzziness.
